Build a food web activity

Cut and Paste the NC organisms on the construction paper. Use arrows in the correct direction to show the flow of energy. Label and color each organism according to their place in the food web. (Ex: Producers, 1st Consumer, etc.). You are creating an ecosystem in your drawing then placing the pictures to where they would reside in. Do not forget to draw a key that represents your colors and levels.

Energy = 1

Producers =3

Parasite = 1

Decomposer = 1

First consumer = 5

Second consumer = 5

Third consumer = 3

Food Chain Pyramid

Begin by folding a piece of paper taco style, forming a square. Cut off the excess rectangle tab formed by the fold. Open the paper and refold the opposite way. Fold the paper along the diagonals and add lines as seen in the drawing below:

In the middle lined section, fill in the following (beginning at the bottom/largest spot). Include the definitions of each trophic level. EX: Producers: Organisms that create their own food through chemical reactions like photosynthesis. You should use the terms herbivore, omnivore and carnivore

  • Producers

  • Primary Consumer

  • Secondary Consumer

  • Tertiary Consumer

On an adjoining side, fill in the corresponding organisms name (seeds, mouse, weasel, and fox)

On the other side, draw a picture of the consumer.

When all sections have been filled in, cut along one of the diagonals (adjacent to the blank section) until you reach the center point. Fold the blank triangle into the center and glue.
